First Grade Music will be taught by Ms. Rachel Wilson this year.
In First grade students work on developing and maintaining a steady beat through body percussion, movement, and playing pitched and non-pitched percussive instruments. We sing songs about home and family, and songs that use rhyme and simple meters.
To reinforce learning ask your child to sing a song that they learned in school that week. To continue to develop musical skills for you child have them participate in activities that strengthen a steady pulse such as bouncing a ball or jumping rope. To develop their musical ear take a walk together with the purpose of listening. Have them listen for sounds around them, and identify their volume (loud or soft) and pitch (high or low). And of course take time to sing together!
